Championship Season Preview: Rochdale Hornets

A new young coach and a new approach from the board room means that there is an even bigger sense of assurances around the Hornets this season after maintaining Championship status over the past two seasons.

Carl Forster has returned to the club at which he helped guide to promotion in 2013 as a player.

Forster has two years of experience at Whitehaven, where he was held in high regard for both his commited performances on the field and holding his squad together while off of it.

Any such off-field problems shouldn’t be an issue at Spotland after a change in direction commercially, as well as building string relations with Rochdale Mayfield during the close season.

The squad, which is very impressive, is headed by vastly experienced playmaker Scott Moore.

Forster himself will bolster a pack that perhaps still looks quite lightweight after the departure of Joe Taira left to join Batley.

Stalwarts Ben Moores, Lee Michell and Declan Kay will also remain key figures at Spotland.

Out wide Paddy Flynn and Shaun Aisncough are two wingers who have both played at Super League level.

The Hornets will still be one of the favourites for relegation and they will have to rely on Forster to keep them up in the Championship.
