Championship Season Preview: Swinton Lions

2018 was always likely to be dramatic for the Lions and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Riddled with debts as much as £100,000 which left them in danger of extinction. They were lucky to stay up in 2018 winning the hastily arranged Championship/League One play-off game against Workington.

Leigh Centurions have snapped up Andrew Thornley and Andy Bracek they will needed replacing. Lewis Hatton is the player brought in to bolster the pack.

They didn’t win many games last season but having added to the squad quite well they will be looking to finish one place higher than lasts season.

Mike Ratu, Gavin Bennion and Oscar Thomas all add a much needed excitement to the Lions as they look to start moving in an upward direction on the league table.

Stuart Littler has done a fantastic job so far at Swinton, he has the perseverance to make it as a coach, as he was named Ireland head coach after Mark Aston shock departure.

Rhodri Lloyd will also need to be at his absolute best. He kept the ball rolling for Swinton last season and he will be important to the Lions for the next two years.

It will be another difficult season but they are well prepared to get through it.
