Season Preview: London Broncos

I won’t be the first to admit I did not see this coming last season. Although I hoped for London to be promoted I was not expecting it.

Despite shocking most of us, I don’t see the Broncos doing the same again this season. They may achieve one or two wins against stronger opposition but they need to be prepared for a relegation battle.

Make no mistake, Broncos do deserve to be in Super League as they earned the right to be here and I do believe that the games that they do lose won’t be by many.

The Broncos squad is not thin, but it isn’t very experienced. Danny Ward has assembled a balanced squad with a lot to prove.

Eloi Pelissier is one of a few players who have to prove people wrong after failing to impress in previous Super League stints.

Morgan Smith and Jordan Abdull are going to be hungry to show their worth and show that they are Super League standard players.

Eddie Battye and James Cunningham were amazing for the Broncos last season and will look to once again set the platform which will allow the likes of Kieran Dixon, Rhys Williams and Alex Walker to score off.

There is a lot of drive and hunger in this young London side but will that be enough? Jarrod Sammut’s departure to Wigan is a big blow but having bought in no fewer than seven new faces the Broncos will need to pull together and work as a squad in order to stay up this season.

Ryan Morgan and Luke Yates are two players with top level experience who have been bought in and they may just provide that extra edge in order to retain Super League status.

Despite all of the progression under Danny Ward and his assistant Jamie Langley, I still see the Broncos as a high-end Championship side. They just don’t have as many top class players as the rest of the teams in the league but I hope they can prove me wrong.
