Season Preview: Salford Red Devils

I feel as though this Salford team has improved on the team we were looking at 12 months ago.

Yes, they only have a squad of 25 players but that gives them opportunity to bring in another player or two before the season starts.

In order to reach the top half of the table the Red Devils need to stay injury free due to their limited numbers but if you ignore the squad depth Salford will improve on their position in the league from last season.

Robert Lui and Jackson Hastings are arguably on of the best half-back partnerships in Super League and with Josh Wood, Joey Lussick and Logan Tomkins all rotating at hooker they can certainly create try-scoring opportunities with most attacking sets.

They still have off-field issues and a long-term uncertainty but Salford’s recruitment has given the fans enough reason to look forward to the season ahead.

Salford’s main weakness last season was their backline and the inability to score tries. A pre-season injury to Manu Vatuvei left them a man down from day one. However, Ken Sio has been bought in and that means that on paper, Salford have one of the best starting line-ups in the competition.

If the Red Devils were to bring in any more talent I would hope the bought in another utility back and utility forward just to give them some room to manoeuvre if injuries do occur.
