Warrington Wolves travelled to the Totally Wicked Stadium as they looked to solidify first place but were stunned by a ruthless St Helens side.
A cagey start to the game meant the opening ten minutes was scoreless but a penalty from Lachlan Coote have the Saints an early 2-0 lead.
Warrington picked up the first try of the game though.
Daryl Clark had the ball ripped out of the tackle by Jonny Lomax and the loose ball was picked up by Blake Austin who dotted down to the right of the posts with Stefan Ratchford converting.
This seemed to open up the game as the Saints touched down a few minutes later.
It came through Mark Percival after Coote switched the ball to Regan Grace on the short side who released the centre back on the inside to score and level the scores.
Another penalty for Saints in front of the posts was slotted over for two points by Coote.
A terribly high tackle from Mike Cooper on Danny Richardson meant that the Wolves prop spent the next ten minutes in the sun-bin.
Saints opted not to take the two points and Warrington held out on their own try-line.
The try for the home side did come a couple of minutes later though as Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook powered over.
Coote converted once more for an eight point lead.
McCarthy-Scarsbrook nearly trucked over again but was hold down by Jason Clark on the line and won a penalty.
The resulting play lead to another Saints try to stretch their lead to 14 just before half-time.
A double pump from Jonny Lomax fooled Ben Murdoch-Masila and the half-back stepped back inside to score.
HALF-TIME: ST HELENS 20-6 WARRINGTON WOLVES
The second half started with McCarthy-Scarsbrook dotted the ball down over the line following Lomax kick.
However, he was denied by the TMO.
The Wolves made sure they were back in the game with five minutes though.
Daryl Clark picked up the back from the ruck and dummies and dived over the line.
Ratchford converted to make it 20-12.
A high bomb kick from Danny Richardson was allowed to bounce by Ratchford and Matty Lees collected the ball to score under the posts.
The TMO was in action once more as Josh Charnley dived over in the right hand edge but a knock-on by Toby King in the air meant the try was disallowed.
With just less than an hour played Regan Grace made a 70 metre break after picking up a loose ball and raced down the field and scored.
After Grace dotted down, Tom Lineham hit the winger with a swinging arm to award Saints with an eight point try with the incident going on report.
Coote converted both attempts at goal to make the score 34-12.
Saints stepped up another gear and went the length of the field once more, with Tommy Makinson scoring on the right.
Warrington looked to make the score more respectful with time ticking by, but Saints were closing them down and forcing errors from Austin and Ratchford when on the ball.
The Wolves were trying to force the ball in order to try get over the line but the mistakes kept coming and Saints held on for the win.
